Of unusually large size, an attractive and still practical early 19th century barber`s looking glass with original mirror plate. The glass is housed within an oval frame crafted from cross-grain mahogany, now of a lovely colour with a rich patina and retains the original metal hanging ring. The comfortably shaped, integral handle enabled the piece to be easily removed from the wall to show the client the back of his head. A rare survivor retaining an old paper label to the reverse side reading `Georgian`. The original mirror glass is showing some minor signs of degradation but remains in remarkably good and usable condition for its age. A wonderful decor piece. Circa 1820-40.
