A rare and decorative set of sixteen framed Regency period watercolours. The hand drawn and coloured images each feature a different native British caterpillar which are all named below the drawing in hand written calligraphy: Little Blue, Green Veined, Brimstone, Small Meadow Brown, Purple hairstreak, Green hairstreak, Orange Tip, Red Admiral, White Admiral, Pearl-bordered fritillary, Comma, Gate-Keeper, Wood Ringlet, Swallow-tail, Small skipper and Common blue. The watercolours are in matching, canted, antique oak frames with a gilt slip. A wonderful set which make a stunning display. Circa 1820. (Frames: circa 1860).
