Rare to survive in such excellent condition, a large, late 18th century Chinese export porcelain lidded tureen in traditional blue and white palette. The bold bombe form echoes silver shapes of the period. The decoration is restrained, featuring a Fitzhugh border with butterfly and floral motifs with undecorated roundels to the body of the piece. The lid is surmounted by a wonderful pinecone knop finial and the two ends of the tureen feature a flamboyant rope twist and foliate handle. A desirable piece in excellent condition to delight the most discerning collector. Circa 1790.
* There is one small, inconsequential chip to the underside of the knop finial. (See photo).
